“…he gives us grace potent enough to meet this and every other evil spirit, if we are humble enough to receive it. That is why he says: ‘God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.’ Be humble then before God. But resist the devil and you’ll find he’ll run away from you. James 4:6-7
Are you humble enough to make the devil tremble? Does he run away when you resist him? I am fascinated by the fact that we have the power to make the devil tremble and run away from us in terror. How does a person who is meek and humble have the power to put the devil on the run? How can humbling ourselves under God strike fear in the heart of our enemy?
Francis Frangipane gives us a clue:
“Satan fears virtue. He is terrified of humility; he hates it. He sees a humble person and it sends chills down his back. His hair stands up when Christians kneel down, for humility is the surrender of the soul to God. The devil trembles before the meek because in the very areas where he once had access, there stands the Lord, and Satan is terrified of Jesus Christ.”–Francis Franipane– “The Three Battlegrounds”
What an awesome picture!!! Some of us, when we think about a humble person, we see someone meek and mild, weak and timid, but that’s not what the devil sees!!! He sees Jesus Christ in us in the areas of our lives that we have surrendered to Him. We become humble by surrendering. We resist the devil by surrendering–by surrendering to the Power of God in us!!!
“Humility is not denying the power you have but admitting that the power comes through you and not from you.”
